Energy Saving Tips!

Energy Saving tip 1   Turn it off

Almost all electrical appliances can be safely turned off at the plug without upsetting their systems. Some satellite and digital TV recorders may need to be left plugged in, but check the instructions on any appliances you aren't sure about.
A typical household can save between £45 and £80 a year just by remembering to turn off appliances left on standby!

Energy Saving tip 2   Think Loft

Thinking of putting your Christmas decorations back in the loft? Wondering if it actually has enough insulation? A fully insulated loft must be up to 300mm thick to benefit from the full savings which can be achieved.
Save up to £150 a year. Plus this measure is grant funded and in some cases for free.

Energy Saving tip 3   Draught excluder

Unless your home is very new, you are likely to be losing some heat through draughts around doors and windows, gaps around the floor, or through the chimney. We can supply and install draft proofing to your home. Looks to save a further £20-£30 a year.

Energy Saving tip 4   Fill the gap

For homes built after 1920, the chances are your home has cavity walls. Cavity wall insulation fills that gap, keeping in the warmth and saving energy save up to£145a year. Plus this measure is grant funded and in some cases for free.

Energy Saving tip 5   Heating myth buster

Leaving the heating on all day on a low temperature is NOT cheaper than turning the heating up and down, or on and off, as needed.
By using a room thermostat it turns the heat on and off when your home reaches a set temperature that you feel comfortable at. Combine this with a timer control that tells your heating system to come on only when you need it to save money on your energy bills.

Energy Saving tip 6   Washing myth buster

It is cheaper to run appliances, such as washing machines, at night than during the day. This may be true, but not for most of us. Check what energy tariff you are on first. Household tariffs vary depending on the time of day, such as Economy 7. The majority of customers pay the same rate at all times of day and night.

Energy Saving tip 7    Solid walls

If your home was built before 1919, its external walls are probably solid rather than cavity walls. Insulate Externally and improve the look and thermal comfort of your home.
Save up to £460 a year

Energy Saving tip 8    Cavity wall myth buster

Correctly installed cavity wall insulation does not causes damp in the home, and likely to lessen damp. Our assessors will be able to advise you as to whether your home is suitable for insulation.

Energy Saving tip 9    Get shower savvy

Modern high-power showers can use as much water in five minutes as it takes to fill a bath. Energy-efficient showerheads and tap aerators can reduce the amount of water delivered from the taps to the shower head by 50% but still allow you to enjoy an invigorating shower. You could save up to &70 a year, source: which?

Energy Saving tip 10    Light bulb moment

Our lighting accounts for 8% of typical household energy bills. Replacing one traditional light bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb of the same brightness will on average save around £55 over the lifetime of the bulb.

- Set your washing machine to wash at 30°C.
- Use a bowl to wash up rather than leaving the hot tap running.
- Boil only the water you intend to use for either the kettle or saucepans.
