KENT COUNTY COUNCIL LAUNCH SCHEME TO TACKLE FUEL POVERTY

Kent County Council and Kent and Medway Sustainable Energy Partnership (KMSEP) have launches their Flexible Eligibility Scheme, designed to support a greater number of fuel poor residents in Kent and Medway to save energy in their homes.

The Local Authority Flexible Eligibility Scheme, is an extension to the existing Kent and Medway Warm Homes Scheme. It has been launched to enable more residents to be considered eligible for financial support towards reducing the cost of heating their homes, through Energy Company Obligation (ECO) funding.

Residents identified as being in fuel poverty; those who spend a large part of their income on heating their homes, or have a health condition that is affected by living in a cold home, will be able to apply for the funding through the Kent and Medway Warm Homes Scheme (www.kent.gov.uk/warmhomes).

The funding they receive through the scheme will support the costs for insulation and replacement heating measures which will help to keep them warm, save energy and lower their energy bills.

Kent County Council works with all twelve councils across Kent and Medway to support residents with home energy improvements through the Warm Homes Scheme.

Five of the thirteen councils in Kent and Medway have already signed up to the ECO Flexible Eligibility scheme and residents in these areas can now benefit from the broadened eligibility criteria for ECO funding. These councils are: Ashford, Dartford, Dover, Gravesham and Tonbridge and Malling

Kent County Council is working with a further seven councils in the county to launch the Flexible Eligibility Scheme later this month.

Kent County Council have also partnered with Aran Ltd, the property improvement company, to be the contracted installer for the scheme which will cover the entire Kent area.
